Every morning, I wake up to a handful of memories, courtesy of Facebook, reminding me of what happened on THIS day in prior years. This morning, I had this reminder from five years ago:
I didn’t end up making it to Sibling Weekend at my sister’s college. If memory serves me right, I had just started a new job the week of the Sibling Weekend and was unable to make the trip back home. I remember texting back and forth with Samantha letting her know how much I wish I was there. That Blackberry is packed away somewhere, so I don’t think there’s any hope of retrieving those old texts, but for some reason I think I actually have them saved on my old computer…
Anyways, for a while after losing Samantha, I often would think of how I didn’t make it up to Worcester to be there during Sibling Weekend. This, along with lots of other “should’ve”s would pop into my head at the most unexpected times. Rather than living in regret, I made a conscious effort to channel these thoughts into reminders of making better decisions on a regular basis as much as possible.
It gets hard to keep the real priorities at the top of our lists, when there’s bills to be paid and work to be done. It’s a real treat when we can take time to do exactly what we WANT. Yes, there’s a lot that NEEDS to be done, but having the opportunity to do exactly what we want is a little slice of heaven.
Here’s a few thoughts to hopefully bring a smile to your face on this lovely Sunday afternoon.
“I love that moment. When you are on a long car ride, or listening to music or reading. And you completely zone out. You forget your troubles and everything around you. You’re focused on that one thing and that one thing only. You’re content and everything seems peaceful…”
“I think one of my favorite feelings is laughing with someone and realizing half way through how much you enjoy them and their existence.”
“Some nights, I wish I could go back in life. Not to change things, just to feel it twice.”
Up to no good since the beginning. ❤
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Take time to enjoy your family and friends if you can. How is it already September?
